The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. We empower voters and defend democracy through advocacy, education, and litigation, at the local, state, and national levels.

The Lawrence Township League encompasses the municipalities of Lawrence, Trenton, Ewing and Hamilton, New Jersey

NATIONAL

The national League was founded in 1919 as an auxiliary to the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) and was designed as a non-partisan organization dedicated to educating women for their new political role.

STATE

The League replaced NAWSA after women were granted the right to vote in 1920. At the same time, New Jersey launched a state organization in Newark. Since 1920, many communities established local leagues.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP

Founders of the League of Women Voters of Lawrence Township began their organizing efforts in 1961 and received a charter the following year. Today, there are 38 local Leagues throughout New Jersey and the number is growing.
